Mounted Majesty

I happened to be switching channels (with a remote, silly!) when I came across a football game involving a team I have never followed before: The Texas Tech Red Raiders.

I didn’t quite know what a Red Raider is, and all I know about Texas Tech is that John Hinckley went there for awhile.

As to what a Red Raider looks like – and this picture does not quite do it justice – the one on TV was a long-haired female astride a black horse. She wore a black mask, a black bolero hat, black boots, an all-black uniform except for a flowing red cape, and an evil grin. She held what looked like a crop in her right hand. And whenever the football team did something of note, the TV camera would close in the mounted female Red Raider. Even when the team did nothing of note!
